Hedgerow Futures Conference 3-5th September 2012

Hedgerows are unique features in the modern landscape; remnants of historical land-use and land management they collectively constitute an enormous human cultural and nature conservation resource. Nevertheless, hedgerows and their wildlife face continuing challenges including removal, inappropriate management, fragmentation, and unknown climate-change impacts. At the same time their value as wildlife habitat, dispersal corridors, as human cultural artefacts, and as providers of human ecosystem services is increasingly being recognised.

The meeting ‘Hedgerow Futures’ has been called to bring together hedgerow researchers and managers to consider the following themes:

  • Biodiversity
  • Connectivity
  • Ecosystem Services
  • Sustainability
  • Management
  • Relationship with People

Keynote Speakers:

Dr Nick Sotherton Head of Research at the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust an organisation with over 40-years experience of hedgerow ecology.

Dr. Françoise Burel, Director of Research CNRS; Connectivity keynote.
