Green Veins and Lanes

The Devon Hedge Group has started a new project to increase awareness of Devon’s exceptional hedgerow heritage. The project is grant aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Devon County Council, and North Devon and Blackdown Hills AONB Sustainable Development Funds.
Green Veins and Lanes
The project, called Green Veins and Lanes, includes:
- Making a map showing all types of hedge in Devon
- Writing down the history of how hedges were looked after and used in the past
- A hedge related art competition for children and teenagers from across the country
- A photographic competition, open to everyone
- Establishing a series of hedgerow trails
- Collating an archive of historical photos
- A range of training events to help people manage and understand hedges better
Hedges Art Competition
There are two categories for the hedges art competition:
- Under 11 years
- From 11 to 16 years
All entrants must be in full time education.
Definition of a hedge within this competition:
A hedge is a field boundary made of natural materials. For example a line of trees, a stone faced wall, an earth filled wall, stone faced banks, etc.
You can enter using the Online Art Competition Form on the Devon Hedges website.
Hedges Photography Competition
Entry for the hedges photographic competition is open to anyone.
